Young children cheered at the opening of a new woodland area at Sarisbury Green Pre School.
The two to five-year-olds explored the new learning and play area after it was officially opened in a ribbon cutting by Sarisbury ward Councillor Sean Woodward.
They ran around the wooded area to make use of the play house, played a numbers game on a washing line and watched as insects crawled into the bug hotel as part of their environmental learning.
It cost £800 and was funded by Cllr Woodward, who represents Fareham Sarisbury for Hampshire County Council, as part of his county councillor funding scheme.
Pre School supervisors Kate Heaney and Caroline Beach said it would be a great aid for the 35 youngsters who attended the pre-school.
They intend to teach the children about how to help look after the environment and its living creatures and will be adding a compost area.
Caroline said: “They’re in touch with nature and look after the bugs and the plants. The big area allows for them to develop their gross motor skills in the space to run around. We couldn’t have done it without the money. We’re very grateful for that.”
Cllr Woodward added: “It’s really good to be able to help a local group that is prepared to help itself. It’s good to let the children blow off steam and not let them be wrapped in cotton wool, like so many are these days.”
